Teaching Assistant (1:1 & Small Group Support) – Secondary Schools

Are you passionate about supporting young people and making a real difference in the classroom? Teaching Personnel is currently recruiting dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistants to work on a 1:1 and small group basis across secondary schools in Teesside and the surrounding areas.

This is a fantastic opportunity for graduates, aspiring teachers, or experienced support staff looking to develop their skills in a rewarding and flexible role.


About the Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will provide targeted support to students who may need additional help to access learning. Your role will involve working closely with individuals or small groups to boost confidence, engagement, and academic progress.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting students on a 1:1 basis or in small groups with their learning
  • Assisting the class teacher in delivering engaging and inclusive lessons
  • Helping students with additional needs (including SEN, SEMH, or learning difficulties)
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and promoting a supportive learning environment
  • Adapting resources and approaches to meet individual student needs
  • Building strong, trusting relationships with students to support their development

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking individuals who are:

  • Patient, empathetic, and passionate about supporting young people
  • Confident working with students aged 11–16
  • Strong communicators with the ability to build rapport quickly
  • Proactive, adaptable, and able to work both independently and as part of a team

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Previous experience in education, childcare, youth work, or support roles
  • Experience working with students with SEN or additional needs
  • A degree or relevant qualifications
  • An interest in progressing into teaching, psychology, or education-based careers

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
