Support Practitioner
Job description
Are you passionate about helping young people find their path?
Do you thrive in fast‑paced, energetic environments where no two days are the same?
If so, we’d love to hear from you.
We are currently working with a specialist setting supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs across both primary and secondary sites. The pupils require adults who are resilient, calm under pressure, and confident working with challenging behaviour. Your role will be to build trust, create meaningful relationships, and help pupils re-engage with learning through creative, hands‑on approaches.
What Makes This Setting Unique
The environments are tailored for pupils who thrive through practical, experiential and active learning. Facilities include:
- A BMX track used for physical regulation, therapy and confidence-building
- A mechanics car and workshop for vocational learning
- Flexible indoor and outdoor personalised learning spaces
- Supportive staff teams across both primary and secondary sites
This is not a typical classroom role — it’s varied, hands-on and deeply rewarding.
Who We’re Looking For
We welcome applicants from a wide range of backgrounds. Education experience is helpful, but not essential — what matters most is resilience, emotional intelligence and a willingness to support young people with complex needs.
Ideal applicants may come from:
- Psychology / social sciences
- Sports coaching, youth work, mentoring
- Ex‑armed forces, security, or protective services
- Prison, probation, or residential care
- Outdoor education, activity leadership, or other practical roles
If you can remain calm, de‑escalate challenging situations and build positive relationships, you’ll fit right in.
Key Responsibilities
- Support pupils on a 1:1 or small‑group basis
- Respond to and manage challenging behaviour using training and supportive strategies
- Assist with practical, creative and therapeutic learning sessions
- Build consistent, trusting relationships with pupils
- Collaborate with a dedicated team across both sites
