Job description

We are currently seeking dedicated and compassionate SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) Support Assistants to work within a range of schools. This role involves supporting children and young people who have SEMH needs, helping them to engage with learning, manage their emotions, and develop positive behaviours.

You will play a vital role in creating a safe, structured, and supportive environment that enables pupils to thrive both academically and personally.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs
  • Build positive relationships with students to promote trust and engagement
  • Support pupils in managing behaviour and emotional regulation
  • Assist in implementing behaviour support plans and strategies
  • Help create a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and other school staff
  • Encourage social skills, resilience, and independence

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience working with children or young people (school, care, youth work, or similar)
  • An understanding of SEMH needs and behaviour management strategies (desirable)
  • Patient, resilient, and empathetic approach
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to remain calm in challenging situations
  • A genuine passion for supporting young people

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
