Job Description
The role of Supply Teacher involves providing high-quality teaching cover across a variety of Primary Schools across Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde on a temporary basis. The successful candidate delivers planned lessons in accordance with the school’s curriculum and policies, ensuring continuity of learning for pupils in the absence of the regular teacher. The position demands adaptability, excellent classroom management, and the ability to engage pupils effectively across different key stages and subjects, as required.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Deliver prepared lessons and follow teaching plans provided by the regular classroom teacher or school management.
- Manage classroom behaviour in accordance with the school’s behaviour policy to maintain a positive learning environment.
- Support pupils’ learning, engagement, and development during the lesson period, ensuring all pupils are included and supported appropriately.
- Mark and assess pupils’ work as required, providing constructive feedback where appropriate.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance and pupil progress.
- Communicate effectively with school staff regarding pupil welfare and any issues arising during the teaching period.
- Ensure compliance with safeguarding and health and safety policies at all times.
- Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the needs of diverse learners, including those with special educational needs and disabilities.
- Attend staff meetings or training sessions if required, to remain updated on school procedures and educational developments.
Required Qualifications
- A recognised teaching qualification suitable for the relevant key stage (for example, Qualified Teacher Status or equivalent certification).
- Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service clearance or willingness to obtain one prior to commencing employment.
Education
- A minimum of a degree-level qualification in a relevant subject or education.
- Must hold QTS.
Experience
- Prior experience teaching in a school environment is essential, preferably across a variety of age groups.
- Experience managing classroom behaviour and delivering lessons in accordance with curriculum requirements.
- Previous supply teaching experience is advantageous but not mandatory.
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong knowledge of the national curriculum and current educational practises.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with pupils and school staff.
- Ability to manage time effectively and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Resilience and flexibility to adapt to different school environments and pupil needs.
- Proficient in the use of basic educational technology and digital resources.
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional qualifications in special educational needs or pastoral care.
- Training in safeguarding children and young people.
- First aid qualification.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
