About the Role

Teaching Personnel are currently seeking an enthusiastic, resilient and motivated Sports Graduate to join a welcoming secondary school in Nantgarw (CF15) as a Behaviour Mentor.

This is an excellent opportunity for a sports graduate looking to gain valuable experience working with young people, particularly those considering a future career in teaching, education, youth work, coaching or pastoral support.

Working primarily with pupils across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, you will use your positive attitude, communication skills and sporting background to build strong relationships with pupils and encourage positive behaviour, engagement and personal development.

The successful candidate will become an important member of the school's pastoral and behaviour team, supporting pupils both inside and outside of the classroom.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as a positive role model for pupils across KS3 and KS4
• Build strong, positive and trusting relationships with young people
• Provide one-to-one and small-group mentoring for pupils who require additional behavioural or pastoral support
• Support pupils to develop confidence, resilience, self-discipline and positive attitudes towards school
• Use your sporting background and coaching skills to motivate and engage pupils
• Help manage challenging behaviour using a calm, consistent and restorative approach
• Support pupils in developing their social and communication skills
• Encourage pupils to make positive choices and take responsibility for their behaviour
• Support pupils who may struggle with attendance, engagement, motivation or behaviour
• Assist with interventions designed to improve pupil engagement and progress
• Where appropriate, use sport and physical activity as a tool for building relationships, confidence and self-esteem

The Ideal Candidate

The school is particularly interested in candidates who have a genuine passion for sport, coaching and working with young people.

You may be a recent graduate with a degree in Sport, Sports Coaching, PE, Sports Science, Psychology, Education or a related subject, or someone with a strong sporting background looking to begin a career in education.

• Confident managing challenging behaviour
• Able to build positive relationships with pupils
• A strong communicator and positive role model
• Reliable, professional and consistent
• Comfortable working with pupils across KS3 and KS4
• Interested in developing a career within education, teaching, coaching or youth work

Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable but not essential. Experience in sports coaching, mentoring, youth work, volunteering, teaching or community programmes would be particularly advantageous.
