Job Advertisement: Sports Coach – PRU, Fazakerley (Liverpool)
Are you an energetic, motivated, and passionate Sports Coach who thrives on making a real difference? A fantastic full-time opportunity has become available within a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) based in Fazakerley, Liverpool, supporting young people who require a more tailored, engaging and supportive educational environment.
This role is perfect for someone with a strong sports background and experience working in PRU, SEMH, or similar alternative education settings. You’ll play a key part in motivating students, keeping them engaged, and helping them develop essential life skills through physical activity and positive mentorship.
About the Role
Working within a PRU environment, you will support students who may have experienced challenges in mainstream education. As a positive role model, you will use sport as a tool to build rapport, encourage participation, and help students grow in confidence, resilience, and teamwork.
We’re looking for someone who can bring infectious enthusiasm, patience, and a calm approach to behaviour management—someone who can inspire young people who need it most.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging, inclusive, and structured sports and physical activity sessions.
- Encourage teamwork, communication, confidence, and emotional resilience.
- Build strong, trusting relationships with students to support their personal and academic development.
- Implement effective behaviour management strategies to create a safe, positive learning space.
- Work collaboratively with staff to ensure students’ needs are supported holistically.
- Act as a mentor and positive influence, helping students re-engage with their education.
Requirements
- Previous experience working with young people in PRU, SEMH, or similar challenging settings (essential).
- Strong background in sports coaching, physical education, or youth sport.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Resilience, empathy, and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
- Relevant sports coaching or PE qualifications (desirable but not essential depending on experience).

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
