Location: Secondary Schools across Newport
Job Type: Full-time & Part-time Opportunities Available
Pay: £85.51 – £110 per day (dependent on role and experience)
Start Date: ASAP

About the Role

Are you a recent Sports Graduate looking to gain hands-on experience in secondary schools? Do you want to inspire young people while building a rewarding career in education, coaching, or pastoral support?

Teaching Personnel are recruiting motivated, energetic, and passionate individuals to work as Sports Teaching Assistants in secondary schools across Newport. This is an excellent opportunity for graduates in Sports Coaching, Sports Science, Physical Education, or related fields who are keen to make a real difference in young people’s lives.

You will support pupils both inside and outside the classroom, using sport and physical activity as a powerful tool to improve engagement, behaviour, confidence, and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support teachers in delivering engaging lessons across the curriculum
  • Work 1:1 and in small groups with pupils who may require additional support
  • Use sports-based activities and coaching techniques to motivate and engage students
  • Help improve behaviour, attendance, confidence, and social development
  • Build positive relationships with pupils who may be disengaged from education
  • Encourage teamwork, resilience, and healthy lifestyles through physical activity
  • Provide emotional and pastoral support to students when needed
  • Assist in creating a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment

Ideal Candidate

  • Sports Graduate or strong background in sport, coaching, or physical activity
  • Passionate about supporting young people and education
  • Confident role model with strong communication skills
  • Experience working with children or young people is desirable
  • Resilient, proactive, and able to build strong relationships with students
  • Interested in careers such as teaching, coaching, youth work, or educational support

Requirements

  • Registered with the Education Workforce Council (EWC) or willing to register
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Right to work in the UK
