Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant (Temporary / Adhoc)
Location: Carlisle
Agency: Teaching Personnel

Teaching Personnel are currently seeking a resilient and adaptable SEMH Teaching Assistant to support pupils within a specialist SEMH school in Carlisle. This is a temporary position with an adhoc working pattern, offering flexibility to suit your availability. There is potential for the role to develop into a longer-term opportunity where there is mutual interest and consistency in availability.

The Role:
You will be supporting students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, many of whom may display challenging behaviour. The role requires a calm, consistent and proactive approach to behaviour management, alongside the ability to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting students on a 1:1 basis or in small groups
  • Managing and de-escalating challenging behaviour
  • Promoting a safe and engaging learning environment
  • Working collaboratively with teaching staff and support teams
  • Adapting to different classroom settings and student needs

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with SEN, particularly SEMH and challenging behaviour
  • A flexible and reliable approach to work, with availability for adhoc assignments
  • Strong interpersonal and behaviour management skills
  • A proactive and resilient mindset

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
