Job description

SEMH Teaching Assistant

Teaching Personnel are working in partnership with a specialist SEMH school in the PR26 Leyland area to recruit a flexible SEMH Teaching Assistant for adhoc work. This role is ideal for someone with experience supporting children and young people with social, emotional, and mental health needs, who is looking for flexibility while working within a structured and supportive school environment.

Role details:

Position: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Hours: Flexible / Full time available, typically 8:30am – 3.30pm
Location: PR26, Leyland
Start: ASAP / flexible

Key responsibilities:

- Supporting pupils with SEMH needs on a 1:1 and small-group basis
- Managing behaviour positively using de-escalation strategies
- Supporting learning, engagement, and emotional regulation
- Working closely with teachers and pastoral teams
- Helping to maintain a safe, calm, and consistent learning environment

Requirements:

- Experience working with SEMH or challenging behaviour
- A calm, patient, and resilient approach
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Relevant education, care, or youth work experience is desirable
- Enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to apply

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
