Interim Senior Leadership Team Position
Assistant Principal / Deputy Principal / Vice Principal
Full-Time | South Bristol | Until Easter (in the first instance)
We are seeking an exceptional interim leader to join the Senior Leadership Team at a secondary school in South Bristol, who are part of a well-known multi-academy trust. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a challenging but highly ambitious secondary school undergoing rapid improvement.
The trust and school are open to applicants from a range of senior leadership backgrounds, and welcome interest from those seeking an interim Assistant Principal, Deputy Principal, or Vice Principal role. The successful candidate will work closely alongside a principal who holds an excellent reputation within the local community and has a proven track record of transformational leadership across his previous schools.
About the Role
This interim position offers significant flexibility and can be tailored to suit the strengths and experience of the successful applicant. The school is open to both teaching and non-teaching timetables and welcomes candidates from any curriculum or operational specialism. While not essential, experience in behaviour, attendance, or pastoral leadership would be advantageous, as these areas remain a key focus for the school’s continued development.
Key Responsibilities May Include:
- Working as a key member of the Senior Leadership Team to drive whole-school improvement
- Supporting the Principal with strategic leadership and operational management
- Leading on an agreed area, aligned to your strengths (e.g., behaviour, curriculum, safeguarding, quality of education, SEND, or other strategic priorities)
- Modelling high expectations and contributing to a positive, aspirational school culture
- Building strong relationships with staff, students, parents, and the wider community
What We’re Looking For:
- An experienced and adaptable senior leader with a strong moral purpose
- A positive, solutions-focused individual able to thrive in a challenging context
- Proven impact in school improvement, at either AP, DP, or VP level or someone who has middle leadership experience and aspiring to be a part of SLT
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- The ability to inspire confidence and lead with integrity
- Experience in behaviour/attendance is desirable but not essential
Contract and Future Opportunities
This role is full-time and will run until Easter in the first instance. The trust has given clear assurance that the successful interim post-holder will be given equal consideration for the permanent senior leadership vacancy, should both parties wish to continue following the successful completion of the interim appointment.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
