SEND Teaching Assistant – Darwen Temp to Perm | £14.25–£16.00 per hour | Mainstream Primary School

We are recruiting for a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming mainstream primary school in Darwen. This is a temp‑to‑perm opportunity supporting pupils within a specialist resource provision, working predominantly with children with ASC. The school offers a supportive team environment, ongoing training, and the chance to make a meaningful impact every day.

About the Role

This position is ideal for someone passionate about supporting children with additional needs and confident in adapting learning to suit individual pupils. You will be working closely with teaching staff and SEND professionals to deliver high‑quality support that helps pupils thrive both academically and emotionally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support for pupils with ASC within the school’s resource provision.

  • Assist in delivering tailored learning activities that meet individual EHCP targets.

  • Support pupils in developing communication, social interaction, and emotional regulation skills.

  • Work collaboratively with teachers and the SENDCo to implement personalised strategies.

  • Promote positive behaviour and help create an inclusive, nurturing learning environment.

  • Adapt resources and activities to ensure accessibility for all learners.

  • Monitor pupil progress and contribute to ongoing assessments and reports.

  • Support pupils during transitions, break times, and structured routines.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience supporting children with SEND, particularly ASC, in a school or similar setting.

  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach to supporting pupils with additional needs.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff.

  • A genuine passion for helping children overcome barriers to learning.

  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant) are desirable but not essential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
