Our two-year salaried SEND teacher training pathway allows you to gain valuable school-based experience before progressing into Initial Teacher Training (ITT) and working towards your PGCE and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

YOUR TWO-YEAR JOURNEY

YEAR 1 | EXPERIENCE & DEVELOP

SEND Teaching Assistant

Spend your first year working in a school in Oxford, gaining hands-on experience supporting pupils with SEND.

You'll work alongside experienced teachers and specialist staff, developing your understanding of:

• Autism and communication needs
• ADHD and behavioural needs
• Learning difficulties
• Speech, language and communication needs
• Social, emotional and mental health needs
• Individualised support and intervention
• Adaptive and inclusive teaching

You'll also develop your confidence in the classroom, learn effective behaviour-support strategies and gain an understanding of how to remove barriers to learning.

You'll be earning a salary while building the experience you'll need to become a successful teacher.

YEAR 2 | TRAIN & QUALIFY

Initial Teacher Training (ITT)

Following successful completion of Year 1, you'll progress onto your teacher training year.

You'll work towards:

PGCE + QTS

During your ITT year, you'll develop the skills to plan, teach and assess high-quality lessons while continuing to receive support and mentoring from experienced education professionals.

By the end of the programme, you'll be ready to begin your career as a qualified SEND teacher.

A degree is required for the teacher training pathway, and previous experience working with children or young people is highly desirable.
