SEND Year 8 Teacher – Maternity Cover – LOCATION

Teaching Personnel is seeking an experienced and resilient SEND Year 8 Teacher to join a supportive specialist provision in LOCATION for a maternity cover role starting in September 2026. This full-time position will run for most of the academic year, with the opportunity to attend transition weeks from 13th July to meet staff and pupils ahead of the September start.

This role would suit a passionate teacher with strong SEN experience who can build positive relationships, think creatively, and work collaboratively as part of a dedicated team.

Contract: Full-time, maternity cover, term-time only
Salary: £34,822 – £51,047 per year + SEND allowance

About the Role

You will teach a small Year 8 class of up to 10 pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, delivering all core subjects within a highly supportive environment.

You will work closely as part of a team of three teachers, collaboratively planning the curriculum and adapting learning to meet individual pupil needs. Subject specialists are also available to support planning and delivery.

The Role Includes

  • Teaching all core subjects to a Year 8 SEND class
  • Planning and delivering engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to individual needs
  • Working collaboratively with a team of teachers, TAs, SEN staff, and subject specialists
  • Supporting pupils’ academic, social, emotional, and communication development
  • Implementing EHCP targets and personalised learning strategies
  • Creating a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment
  • Using creative and flexible approaches to engage pupils and promote progress
  • Supporting pupils with emotional regulation and behaviour management strategies
  • Contributing positively to the wider OMS team and school community

We Are Looking For Someone Who

  • Holds QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) – essential
  • Has strong experience working within SEN/SEND settings
  • Has excellent clear spoken communication skills
  • Is resilient, patient, and has a good sense of humour
  • Can think outside the box to engage and motivate pupils
  • Works well collaboratively as part of a team
  • Is adaptable, nurturing, and committed to supporting young people with additional needs
  • Has knowledge of Read Write Inc. and Fresh Start programmes (advantageous)
