Job description

SEND & SEMH Teachers | East Sussex

Looking for a teaching role where you can adapt your approach and get to know how your pupils learn?

I’m interested in hearing from qualified teachers considering SEND and SEMH opportunities across East Sussex.

I work with primary and secondary specialist settings around Hastings, Battle, Eastbourne, Hailsham, Seaford, Newhaven, Lewes and surrounding areas, supporting flexible cover and longer-term teaching placements.

Who could this suit?

You might be:

  • An experienced SEND teacher looking for a new setting

  • A mainstream teacher considering specialist education

  • An ECT interested in developing within SEND

  • A teacher returning after a break

  • Looking for flexible teaching alongside other commitments

You’ll generally need QTS or an appropriate equivalent. Requirements will vary between vacancies, and some schools will need specific specialist or subject experience.

Teaching within specialist education

The work can involve adapting lessons, resources and communication to help pupils access learning at an appropriate level.

You may also work closely with support staff and other professionals to develop pupils’ engagement, confidence, emotional regulation and independence.

It can be challenging, and flexibility matters. So does finding a school whose approach suits your own.

Before recruitment, I worked within SEND education myself. When we speak, I’ll want to understand your teaching background, the pupils you enjoy working with and what would make your next move worthwhile.

Pay & practical information

Qualified teaching roles are paid to scale where applicable, with access to CPD and professional development.

You’ll need an Enhanced Child Workforce DBS registered on the Update Service. If you don’t currently hold one, you’ll need to apply through us and join the Update Service. I’ll support you through the process, with the associated cost covered by the applicant.

We’ll require your full employment and education history and references covering 24 months of employment in total where possible, prioritising recent and relevant employment.

Interested?

Apply and tell me about your teaching experience, preferred age groups or subjects, and what you’re looking for next.

Let’s explore which specialist settings across East Sussex could suit you.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
