Job description

Make a Lasting Impact – Primary & Secondary Tutors Wanted (Wokingham Area)

Do you have the resilience, patience, and dedication to support young people with complex needs?

We are seeking committed primary and secondary tutors to work with students across Wokingham and nearby areas who are currently out of mainstream education. Many of these learners have faced interruptions in their schooling and need consistent, supportive input to help them rebuild both their skills and confidence.

The Role
You’ll provide 1:1 or small group tuition, usually between 9:00am – 3:00pm, delivering personalised learning that meets each student where they are. Sessions will focus on core subjects and key life skills, with a strong emphasis on engagement and relationship-building.

A large proportion of the pupils have SEN (Special Educational Needs) and EHCPs (Education, Health and Care Plans), with complex profiles that may include behavioural challenges. This role requires someone who can remain calm under pressure and respond positively to behaviours that may be seen as challenging.

Session Locations
Teaching takes place in a variety of environments, depending on the needs of the young person. These may include:

  • At home (family or care settings)
  • Online delivery
  • In schools or alternative provisions
  • Libraries or community venues

Being adaptable and confident across different settings is essential.

Availability
We require a minimum commitment of 10–15 hours per week, scheduled within daytime hours.

About You

  • Experience teaching or supporting students at primary and/or secondary level
  • Strong background working with SEN and complex needs
  • Comfortable managing and responding to challenging behaviour in a calm, consistent way
  • Flexible and creative in your teaching approach
  • Able to build positive, trusting relationships with young people
  • Motivated by helping students reconnect with learning

The Difference You’ll Make
You’ll play a vital role in helping young people who may have disengaged from education to feel safe, supported, and capable again. Your input could be the turning point that helps them move forward with confidence.

If you’re ready for a role that is both challenging and incredibly rewarding, we’d love to hear from you.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
