Job description

Maths & English Tutors Needed | Slough

Make a Real Difference Where It Matters Most

Are you an experienced and passionate educator who believes every child deserves the opportunity to succeed, regardless of the challenges they face?

We are currently recruiting dedicated Maths and English Tutors to support pupils across the Slough area. This is an opportunity to use your skills and experience to make a meaningful impact on young people who benefit from personalised, consistent, and supportive educational provision.

Many of the pupils we support have experienced:

✔ Significant gaps in learning
✔ Disrupted or inconsistent education
✔ Low confidence and engagement in learning
✔ Additional needs, including SEMH, SEND, or anxiety-related barriers
✔ Difficulties accessing mainstream education on a full-time basis

As a result, we are seeking tutors who are not only knowledgeable in their subject area but also patient, adaptable, resilient, and committed to helping pupils achieve their potential.

Subjects Required

  • Mathematics
  • English

Support may be required at both Primary and Secondary levels.

The Role

Tuition sessions may take place:

  • In pupils' homes
  • Within schools
  • In community settings such as libraries
  • Online

Tutors should be confident in adapting lessons and teaching approaches to meet the individual needs, abilities, and learning styles of each pupil.

This is not a standard tutoring position. We are looking for educators who can build positive relationships, re-engage learners, develop confidence, and support meaningful academic and personal progress.

What We're Looking For

We welcome applications from:

  • Qualified Teachers (QTS/QTLS preferred)
  • Experienced Tutors
  • SEN Specialists
  • Intervention Teachers
  • Educators with experience supporting vulnerable or disengaged learners

Ideal candidates will have:

✔ Strong subject knowledge in Maths or English
✔ Experience working with Primary and/or Secondary pupils
✔ The ability to effectively differentiate and personalise learning
✔ A calm, empathetic, and professional approach
✔ Excellent communication and behaviour management skills
✔ A strong commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing

Reporting & Communication Expectations

Maintaining clear, accurate, and professional communication is an important part of this role.

Tutors will be expected to:

  • Complete accurate attendance records
  • Provide detailed session reports
  • Track pupil progress and engagement
  • Communicate concerns, achievements, and next steps effectively
  • Provide high-quality updates to schools, parents, and commissioning teams

Strong written communication skills and attention to detail are essential.

Hours Available

We are seeking tutors who can commit to a minimum of 10-15 hours per week, with additional tuition opportunities available.

Flexible scheduling is available based on your availability and travel preferences.

Why Join Us?

  • Meaningful and rewarding work that has a genuine impact
  • Flexible working hours
  • Ongoing tuition opportunities and referrals
  • The chance to support and inspire vulnerable learners
  • A supportive and professional working environment
  • A varied and engaging role across different settings and learner needs

If you are an enthusiastic and committed educator who can inspire confidence, rebuild engagement in learning, and adapt your teaching to meet pupils where they are, we would love to hear from you. Join us in helping young people overcome barriers and achieve success.

All pay rates quoted are inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay.

TP Tutors is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All educators are subject to safeguarding checks in line with Department for Education (DfE) guidance including Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE). All educators must complete our annual tuition training programme, covering Safeguarding, Prevent Duty, KCSIE, Allergy Awareness, and Child-on-Child Abuse Awareness. Tutors must also hold, or be willing to obtain, a valid Child-only Enhanced DBS certificate on the update service, with full guidance provided.

Many pupils supported by TP Tutors require tailored educational provision. Tutors should be confident in building positive relationships, adapting their approach to meet individual needs, and maintaining high standards of professionalism and safeguarding at all times. Tutors must also be able to effectively plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons that meet the learner’s individual needs, monitor progress, and adapt teaching strategies to support positive outcomes.
