SEN Tutor (Guildford)
We are looking for dedicated and compassionate in-person tutors to support both primary and secondary-aged pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN). An increasing number of our referrals involve pupils who have been permanently excluded, so we are particularly interested in tutors who are confident working with learners who have complex needs and disrupted educational backgrounds.
Tutors will deliver Maths and English tuition through structured, supportive sessions that are tailored to each pupil's individual needs. Many of the students we support have experienced significant gaps in their education and may have low confidence or display challenging behaviours. A calm, patient, and consistent approach is essential.
Location
Tutoring will take place in person across Guildford.
Pay
- £25–£30 per hour, depending on experience and role requirements
Safeguarding Requirements
- An Enhanced DBS is required
- Tutors must be registered on the DBS Update Service
- If you do not currently hold an Enhanced DBS or are not registered on the Update Service, you will be able to apply through us
The Ideal Tutor Will
- Have experience supporting children or young people in an educational or related setting, such as tutoring, teaching, SEN support, working as a teaching assistant, or youth work
- Be confident delivering Maths and English at primary and/or secondary level
- Have experience working with pupils with SEN
- Have experience, or be confident working with, pupils who have been permanently excluded (highly desirable)
- Have relevant knowledge or experience supporting Looked After Children (LAC) (highly desirable)
- Be patient, resilient, and able to build positive relationships with pupils who may be disengaged from education
- Be comfortable supporting pupils from a wide range of social, emotional, and educational backgrounds
Hours & Commitment
- A minimum availability of 10 hours per week is required
- Tutors looking for a fuller timetable would typically work with 2–3 pupils
- Consistency, reliability, and professionalism are essential
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver structured, engaging, and personalised in-person Maths and English sessions
- Support pupils with learning gaps, emotional regulation, and low confidence
- Accurately record attendance and complete a lesson summary after each day
- Maintain clear communication while demonstrating a professional and supportive approach at all times

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
