SEN Tutor
Job description
Experienced Tutor - Didcot & Surrounding areas
Make a Meaningful Difference Beyond the Classroom
Are you an experienced tutor who understands that real progress is about more than academic achievement?
We're looking for committed and compassionate tutors in the Didcot area who are ready to support young people who need more than subject knowledge. Many of the pupils we work with benefit from consistency, patience, encouragement, and a trusted adult who can help them re-engage with learning and build confidence.
Start available from the September term.
Who You'll Be Supporting
We receive a high volume of referrals for both Primary and Secondary-aged pupils, many of whom have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and other complex needs.
Our primary referrals are often from schools seeking targeted, personalised intervention to help pupils make progress and overcome barriers to learning.
Our secondary referrals frequently involve students who:
- Are out of school or following reduced timetables
- Have struggled within mainstream education
- Require structured, calm, and consistent support to rebuild confidence and engagement
Whether supporting primary or secondary learners, your role will be to help pupils reconnect with education at a pace that works for them while providing stability, structure, and encouragement.
Availability Requirements
To be considered for this role, you must be able to commit to:
- A minimum of 10-15 hours per week
- Core working hours between 8:30am and 3:30pm
- Availability Monday to Friday
Consistency and reliability are essential, as many of the pupils we support thrive on routine and predictable support.
More Than Just Teaching
This role involves more than delivering tuition sessions. Professionalism, communication, and accurate reporting are key aspects of the position.
Tutors will be expected to:
- Accurately record and report attendance
- Monitor and document both academic and emotional progress
- Provide clear, professional feedback that can be shared with schools and other professionals
- Maintain high standards of safeguarding and record-keeping
Your reports may form part of wider discussions with schools and external agencies, making attention to detail and strong communication skills essential.
Your Background
We welcome applications from tutors with experience in:
- Primary or Secondary education, including mainstream and specialist settings
- Alternative Provision
- Private Tuition
- Pastoral, mentoring, or youth-based roles
We're looking for professionals who can demonstrate:
- Strong behaviour management grounded in empathy
- Experience supporting pupils with SEMH and other complex needs
- Confidence working independently
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Resilience, adaptability, and emotional intelligence
Why This Role Matters
Success isn't always measured by test scores alone.
Sometimes progress means:
- A primary-aged pupil beginning to believe in their own abilities
- A secondary student remaining engaged throughout an entire session
- A young person rebuilding trust in education and their own potential
If you're passionate about making a measurable difference in the lives of young people and can commit to consistent hours in the Didcot area, we'd love to hear from you.
Join us in helping pupils overcome barriers, rediscover confidence, and achieve meaningful progress.
All pay rates quoted are inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay.
