Job description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Primary SEN Tutor to support pupils who are currently unable to attend school for a range of reasons. This role involves providing personalised, high-quality education to vulnerable learners and helping them re-engage with their learning in a supportive, nurturing environment.

About the Role:
As an SEN Tutor, you will work with pupils on a 1:1 basis, delivering tailored lessons that meet their individual needs. Sessions may take place in the pupil’s home, within a school setting, or online, depending on the pupil’s circumstances and requirements. A significant part of the initial tutoring period will focus on building trust, establishing rapport, and creating a safe, positive foundation for learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver bespoke tuition to primary-aged pupils with a variety of special educational needs.

  • Support learners who are unable to attend school due to medical, emotional, behavioural, or other complex needs.

  • Build strong, trusting relationships to help pupils feel comfortable, motivated, and secure.

  • Provide daily attendance updates and brief session summaries.

  • Set clear learning objectives and targets, reviewing and adapting them as needed.

  • Work collaboratively with families, schools, and other professionals involved in the pupil’s care.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with a range of SEN, such as ASD, ADHD, SEMH, medical needs, and anxiety-related non-attendance.

  • Previous experience supporting vulnerable or disengaged pupils.

  • Ability to deliver tuition confidently in-home, in-school, or online.

  • Availability for a minimum of 10–15 hours per week.

  • A patient, empathetic, and child-centred approach.

  • Strong communication and record-keeping skills.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
