Are you an experienced secondary teacher or tutor passionate about supporting young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)?

TP Tutors, part of Teaching Personnel, is looking for dedicated SEN Secondary Tutors to provide personalised 1:1 tuition to pupils across Birmingham and surrounding areas. Sessions may take place in pupils’ homes, schools or suitable community settings, primarily during school hours.

This is a rewarding opportunity to support secondary-aged pupils with additional needs, helping them re-engage with education, build confidence and make meaningful academic progress.

Pay

Competitive pay depending on experience, qualifications, pupil needs and the tuition assignment.

Working Pattern

• Flexible part-time and full-time opportunities.
• Tuition delivered during school hours, Monday to Friday.
• Long-term and ongoing assignments available.
• Travel between tuition locations may be required.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging and personalised 1:1 tuition tailored to each pupil's needs.
• Plan and deliver lessons suitable for secondary-aged pupils, including KS3 and KS4.
• Support pupils across subjects such as English, Maths and Science, depending on your specialism.
• Adapt teaching strategies and resources to meet a range of SEND needs.
• Support pupils working towards GCSEs or other relevant qualifications.
• Monitor pupil progress and complete session reports.
• Build positive relationships with pupils, families, schools and relevant professionals.
• Encourage confidence, resilience, independence and engagement with learning.
• Create a safe, supportive and inclusive learning environment.
• Support EHCP or individual learning targets where applicable.

Must-Have Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years' UK teaching experience, preferably in a secondary setting.
• Experience supporting secondary-aged pupils with SEND.
• Strong knowledge of the UK National Curriculum.
• Experience delivering differentiated and personalised learning.
• Excellent communication, behaviour management and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to engage and motivate pupils who may face barriers to education.
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle, or reliable travel arrangements.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
• Right to work in the UK.

Desirable

• QTS, PGCE or another recognised teaching qualification.
• Secondary subject specialism in English, Maths, Science or another curriculum subject.
• Experience supporting pupils with ASC, ADHD, SEMH, dyslexia, speech and language needs or other additional learning needs.
• GCSE teaching experience.
• Experience in alternative provision, specialist settings or home tuition.
• Knowledge of EHCPs.

Location

Birmingham and surrounding areas, including Edgbaston, Harborne, Selly Oak, Erdington, Sutton Coldfield, Yardley, Perry Barr and Hodge Hill, depending on pupil requirements.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
