Do you have the patience, dedication, and enthusiasm to support young learners in reaching their full potential? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our dynamic and supportive team as a SEN Teaching Assistant.
About the Role:
We are looking for a caring and committed SEN Teaching Assistant to work closely with students who have Special Educational Needs (SEN), including Autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, learning disabilities, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges. You will play a vital role in providing tailored support, helping students develop confidence, independence, and essential skills in a nurturing learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 support or work with small groups of children with SEN, helping them access the curriculum and engage in learning.
- Assist the class teacher in implementing individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour support plans.
- Adapt learning materials to suit the needs and abilities of students, ensuring an inclusive classroom environment.
- Support students in developing their communication, social, and emotional skills.
- Use a range of strategies and interventions, including visual aids, sensory activities, and structured routines, to support learning.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs (Special Educational Needs Coordinators), therapists, and parents to provide the best possible support for students.
- Encourage and promote positive behaviour and emotional well-being through patience, understanding, and positive reinforcement.
- Assist with personal care tasks where necessary, ensuring dignity and respect at all times.
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience working with children with SEN (in a school, nursery, or care setting) is desirable but not essential—we value passion, empathy, and a willingness to learn.
- A relevant qualification, such as a Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant Certificate, CACHE Level 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or equivalent, is desirable but not essential.
- A strong understanding of Autism, ADHD, SEMH, and other learning needs, or a willingness to undertake training in these areas.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
- Patience, resilience, and a nurturing approach to supporting children with diverse needs.
- Basic IT skills to support learning through technology and assist with record-keeping.
- A proactive and flexible attitude, with the ability to adapt to different learning needs and challenges.
- A valid DBS check (or willingness to undergo one before starting the role).
Why Join Us?
- A welcoming and supportive environment with a strong commitment to staff well-being and development.
- Ongoing training and CPD opportunities, including specialised SEN training.
- A rewarding role where you can make a real difference in the lives of young learners.
- Modern facilities, well-resourced classrooms, and a positive and inclusive school culture.
