Teaching Assistant – PRU

Sunderland
Full-Time | Term Time Only

We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Teaching Assistant to join our Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Sunderland. Our provision supports students who have been excluded or are at risk of exclusion from mainstream education, helping them to re-engage with learning and achieve positive outcomes.

About the Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Support students with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs

  • Work closely with teaching staff to deliver tailored learning activities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support

  • Help manage behaviour positively and consistently

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students

  • Support students’ personal development and wellbeing

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working with young people, ideally in a PRU, alternative provision, or SEN setting

  • Demonstrates resilience, patience, and a calm approach

  • Has strong behaviour management skills

  • Can build rapport quickly and effectively

  • Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children

A relevant Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable but not essential. Team Teach or de-escalation training would be advantageous.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
