Job description
Teaching Personnel are working with a primary school in the Cardiff Bay area who are looking for an experienced and adaptable ALN Teaching Assistant to join their team.
This role would suit someone who enjoys working closely with pupils who require additional support and can adapt their approach to help children access learning, build confidence and develop greater independence.
About the Role
As an ALN Teaching Assistant, you'll provide targeted support to pupils throughout the school day, working alongside the class teacher and wider support team.
Your responsibilities could include:
- Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with ALN
- Supporting pupils to access lessons and classroom activities
- Adapting tasks and resources to suit individual learning needs
- Helping pupils develop communication, social and emotional skills
- Supporting children with concentration, attention and engagement
- Encouraging independence and confidence in the classroom
- Promoting positive behaviour and supporting emotional regulation
- Recognising when a pupil may be becoming overwhelmed and responding appropriately
- Helping pupils manage transitions between activities and different areas of the school
- Working closely with teachers to implement individual support strategies
- Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils
Experience We're Looking For
The school would particularly value someone with experience supporting children with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, Down syndrome, communication difficulties or behavioural needs.
Experience isn't limited to working in schools. Relevant backgrounds in care, youth work, sports coaching, residential settings or support work can provide valuable transferable skills.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
