We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming mainstream primary school, working within their specialist SEN provision. SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) - SEN Provision within a Mainstream Primary School

Location: Burnley

Salary: £14.25 - £15.50 per hour
Contract: Full-Time, Term-Time Only
Start Date: Monday 2nd November 2026 or ASAP

The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils who have a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, Speech and Language needs, and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges. You will provide tailored support to enable pupils to access learning, develop independence, and achieve positive outcomes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting pupils within the school's SEN provision and mainstream classrooms where appropriate.
  • Delivering targeted interventions and small-group activities.
  • Assisting pupils with communication, emotional regulation, and social development.
  • Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider support staff to implement individual education plans.
  • Adapting learning resources to meet individual needs.
  • Promoting positive behaviour and encouraging pupil engagement.
  • Monitoring and recording pupil progress against agreed targets.
  • Building positive relationships with pupils, parents, and colleagues.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience working with children with SEN in a school, care, or support setting.
  • A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to build trusting relationships with pupils who may require additional support.
  • Knowledge of Autism, ADHD, SEMH, or other additional needs (desirable).
  • A relevant Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent experience (desirable).
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
