Post title: SEN Class Teacher

Hours: Full time, term time only Monday-Friday start and finish time TBC

School: An all-age SEN school for children with autism based in Maidenhead

Pay range: Teacher’s pay scale, experience and qualification dependant

Line manager: The Headteacher, SLT, MLT and the Governing Body

Supervisory responsibilities: Support staff as directed

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teacher to join our team from September 2026 on a full-time, permanent basis, working across Maidenhead, Berkshire. This role is suitable for teachers with either Primary or Secondary experience who are passionate about supporting children and young people with special educational needs.

 

Main purpose of the job:

  • Be responsible for the learning and achievement of all pupils in the class/es ensuring equality of opportunity for all
  • Be responsible and accountable for achieving the highest possible standards in work and conduct
  • Treat pupils with dignity, building relationships rooted in mutual respect, and at all times observing proper boundaries appropriate to a teacher’s professional position
  • Work proactively and effectively in collaboration and partnership with learners, parents/carers, governors, other staff and external agencies in the best interests of pupils
  • Act within, the statutory frameworks, which set out their professional duties and responsibilities and in line with the duties outlined in the current School Teachers Pay and Conditions Document and Teacher Standards (2012)
  • Take responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people within the school

You will be working closely with students who have complex needs, including:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD)
  • Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD)
  • Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD)

You will plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons that support academic progress, communication, independence, and personal development. The role also involves close collaboration with teaching assistants, therapists, and families to ensure each pupil receives a holistic and inclusive education.

The Ideal Candidate

We welcome applications from individuals who:

  • Hold QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) or are motivated to pursue teacher training
  • Have previous experience working within a SEN environment (desirable)
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to inclusive and differentiated teaching
  • Are patient, resilient, and passionate about supporting pupils with complex needs
  • Work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
