Teaching Personnel are currently recruiting for an experienced and dedicated SEN Teacher to join a specialist secondary school in Oldham. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified teacher with a proven background in Special Educational Needs (SEN) education who is passionate about supporting young people with complex learning needs.

This specialist secondary school caters for pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and supports a wide range of additional needs, including:

• Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
• Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD)
• Complex Learning Difficulties and Disabilities (CLDD)
• Sensory Processing Difficulties
• Social, Emotional and Behavioural Needs (SEMH)

The Role

As an SEN Teacher, you will deliver engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to meet the diverse needs of pupils with complex learning difficulties. You will work closely with teaching assistants, therapists, parents, and external professionals to ensure every pupil receives the support they need to make meaningful progress.

The successful candidate will be confident in adapting their teaching approach, implementing personalised learning strategies, and creating a positive classroom environment where pupils feel safe, valued, and motivated to learn.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver personalised lessons in line with EHCP outcomes
• Differentiate learning to meet a range of cognitive, communication, sensory, and behavioural needs
• Create a structured and nurturing classroom environment
• Lead and support teaching assistants and other classroom staff
• Monitor, assess, and record pupil progress effectively
• Implement behaviour support strategies and positive intervention techniques
• Support pupils with emotional regulation and social development
• Promote independence, confidence, and life skills
• Work collaboratively with families, therapists, and multidisciplinary teams
• Contribute to annual reviews and pupil progress meetings

Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
• Previous SEN teaching experience
• Experience working with pupils with complex needs, including ASC, PMLD, CLDD, sensory processing difficulties, and SEMH needs
• Strong understanding of EHCPs and personalised learning programmes
• Excellent classroom and behaviour management skills
• Ability to adapt teaching methods to support a wide range of learning needs
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• A patient, resilient, and proactive approach to teaching

• Team Teach training (or willingness to undertake training)
• Experience implementing sensory-based approaches and interventions
• Understanding of trauma-informed practice and positive behaviour support
