Job description

SEN Teaching Assistant – Year 2

Location: Weymouth
Start Date: October 2026 (potentially sooner)
Contract: Fixed-term, full academic year
Hours: 5 days per week

Are you an experienced and confident SEN Teaching Assistant looking for a rewarding opportunity in a lovely school in Weymouth?

Teaching Personnel are currently working with a welcoming school who are seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to provide support to a Year 2 pupil with additional needs.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who can build a positive relationship with the child while providing consistent support, clear boundaries and encouragement throughout the school day.

The Role

You will work closely with the class teacher and wider school team to support the pupil both within lessons and across the wider school day. The pupil enjoys being active, so the successful candidate will be someone who is energetic, enthusiastic and happy to get involved in sporting activities, games and outdoor play.

The role will include:

  • Providing 1:1 support to a Year 2 pupil throughout the school day.
  • Supporting the child to access and engage with classroom learning.
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and engagement.
  • Establishing and maintaining clear, consistent boundaries.
  • Supporting the child during transitions, playtimes and other activities.
  • Getting involved in sporting activities, games and physical activities.
  • Working collaboratively with the class teacher and SEN team.
  • Building a trusting and positive relationship with the pupil.

About You

The school are looking for someone who is:

  • Confident in managing boundaries and maintaining consistency.
  • Calm, patient and resilient.
  • Energetic and happy to participate in physical activities and games.
  • Able to build positive relationships with children while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Enthusiastic about helping children overcome barriers to learning.
  • Ideally experienced in working with children with SEN/additional needs.
  • Reliable and committed to working 5 days per week for the duration of the contract.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
