Job description

1:1 Support Assistant

Are you passionate about making a meaningful impact on the lives of young people who may find school challenging? We are looking for a dedicated 1:1 Support Assistant to work with pupils in a mainstream primary school in the Stalybridge area of Tameside.

Position: Full-time, 8:30am–3:30pm (long-term opportunity)
Start Date: ASAP – April 2026

A warm and nurturing primary school in the SK15 postcode is seeking a reliable and skilled individual with a calm, supportive manner to work as a 1:1 Support Assistant. You will be working with two pupils at different points throughout the day who are working below age-related expectations and following the Early Years Curriculum. Their learning is centred around continuous provision with short, engaging activities. One pupil may display challenging behaviour and can be reluctant to engage in classroom tasks, so patience and consistency are essential. The role is available immediately, with the potential to become a long-term post for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with pupils who have a range of additional needs, promoting positive behaviour choices.
  • Work closely with the Class Teacher, SENCO and external professionals to adapt and deliver targeted learning support in an inclusive environment.
  • Provide assistance to pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
  • Lead and organise sensory breaks throughout the school day.
  • Support learning through continuous provision, ensuring pupils make progress towards their personalised targets.

We’re Looking For

  • Experience supporting children with SEND on a 1:1 basis or in small groups.
  • Understanding of continuous provision and the EYFS curriculum.
  • A calm, nurturing and consistent approach with strong communication skills.
  • Resilience and flexibility to adapt to pupils’ varying needs during the day.
  • A valid DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).

Why Work with Teaching Personnel?

  • Competitive daily pay and flexible working opportunities.
  • Free CPD training, including specialist SEND and behaviour courses.
  • Ongoing support from a dedicated consultant.
  • Access to a wide range of long-term and permanent roles.
