The school supports pupils with a range of moderate special educational needs, including moderate learning difficulties (MLD), speech and language communication needs, Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), social and emotional needs, and mild-to-moderate behavioural challenges. Many pupils require consistent emotional support, positive role‑modelling, and guidance with social development—and that’s where you come in.

As a Pastoral Support Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting students’ wellbeing, behaviour, and inclusion. Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing 1:1 and small‑group pastoral support, helping pupils regulate emotions, build resilience, and develop social skills.
- Supporting pupils throughout the school day, including transitions, break times, and in-class engagement.
- Implementing individual support plans and working closely with the SENCO, pastoral lead, therapists, and teaching staff.
- Monitoring attendance, punctuality, and behaviour, and assisting with early intervention strategies.
- Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils to boost confidence and self‑esteem.
- Using trauma‑informed, restorative, and positive behaviour approaches to de‑escalate situations.
- Encouraging positive choices, independence, and personal development.
- Liaising with parents/carers and external agencies where required.
Requirements
You will be a strong fit for this role if you:
- Have experience working with children or young people (youth work, sports coaching, mentoring, residential care, school experience, etc.).
- Can remain calm, patient, and supportive when dealing with emotional or behavioural challenges.
- Possess good communication skills and emotional intelligence.
- Are confident building rapport with pupils who may have low confidence or limited trust in adults.
- Are resilient, reliable, and committed to improving young people’s lives.
