SEN Learning Support Assistant (LSA) – Romford

We are currently recruiting for a dedicated, compassionate, and resilient SEN Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a welcoming and supportive school setting in Romford. This is a highly rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about making a positive impact on the educational journey and emotional wellbeing of children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

The role involves supporting pupils both on a 1:1 basis and within small group settings, helping children to feel safe, supported, and engaged within the school environment. You will work closely with pupils who may present with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, speech and language difficulties, sensory processing needs, or behavioural challenges.

Start Date: September 2026 (with potential for an earlier start)
Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm
Days: Monday to Friday
Pay: £90 – £110 per day (depending on experience and suitability)
Contract: Long-term with potential to become permanent

The Role

As an SEN LSA, you will play a key role in supporting pupils both academically and emotionally throughout the school day. Working alongside teachers, the SENCO, therapists, and pastoral staff, you will help implement personalised support strategies that meet individual pupil needs.

You will provide structured 1:1 support in line with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), behaviour support plans, and individual learning targets, ensuring pupils receive consistent guidance and encouragement. You will help create a nurturing and inclusive environment where children feel secure, understood, and able to thrive.

The role may also involve supporting pupils with emotional regulation, sensory needs, communication difficulties, and behavioural challenges, using positive behaviour management techniques and tailored intervention strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide tailored support to pupils with SEND on a 1:1 basis and within small group settings
  • Follow EHCPs, behaviour support plans, and individual learning targets to ensure effective support
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils to encourage engagement and confidence
  • Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour management strategies
  • Adapt learning activities and communication methods to meet individual needs
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SENCOs, therapists, and external professionals
  • Promote independence, social development, and self-esteem
  • Assist with classroom activities and interventions to support learning outcomes
  • Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff where appropriate

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND in education, care, youth work, or support settings
  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
  • A proactive and flexible attitude towards supporting individual needs
  • A genuine passion for helping children overcome barriers to learning and reach their full potential

Safeguarding Requirements

An enhanced DBS check will be required for this role. Candidates who already hold a DBS registered on the Update Service are encouraged to apply; however, applicants willing to undertake a new DBS check will also be considered.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
