Job description

Learning Support Assistant – SEN 1:1 Support

We are currently recruiting a committed and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to provide 1:1 SEN support at a specialist setting in Preston. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs and is looking for flexible agency work with the potential for a long-term or permanent opportunity.

The position involves working closely with individual pupils who require tailored support to access learning, regulate emotions, and develop communication, independence, and social skills. Pupils may have a range of needs including autism, ADHD, SEMH, learning difficulties, and complex needs.

Role details:

  • SEN school setting

  • 1:1 pupil support

  • Based in Preston

  • Agency role

  • Ad hoc and short-term assignments available

  • Temp to perm opportunities for suitable candidates

Key responsibilities:

  • Providing consistent 1:1 support throughout the school day

  • Supporting learning activities both in and out of the classroom

  • Assisting with emotional regulation and behaviour support strategies

  • Working closely with teachers, SENCOs, and other support staff

  • Creating a safe, calm, and positive learning environment

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have previous experience working with children or young people with SEN (education, care, youth work, or similar)

  • Be patient, empathetic, and resilient

  • Be confident managing challenging behaviour when required

  • Be reliable and flexible with availability

  • Have a genuine interest in SEN education

  • Hold an enhanced DBS or be willing to apply for one

This role is well suited to experienced LSAs, support workers, graduates considering a career in education or psychology, or individuals looking to build long-term experience within a specialist SEN setting.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
