SEN Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)

Salford | Full-Time | Term Time Only | September 2026 | Competitive salary based on experience

Teaching Personnel are recruiting for a confident and enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a specialist secondary provision in Salford. This rewarding role involves supporting students aged 11-19 with a range of complex additional needs, helping to deliver engaging learning experiences and providing high-quality support both inside and outside of the classroom.

The school caters for pupils with Autism, Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), physical disabilities, and complex medical needs. With a strong focus on inclusion, independence, and personalised learning, the school offers a supportive environment where pupils are encouraged to achieve their full potential.

The Role

  • Delivering lessons and interventions to small groups and whole classes in the absence of the teacher
  • Supporting students to access the curriculum and meet their individual learning targets
  • Working closely with teaching staff to plan and deliver engaging activities
  • Providing behaviour, communication, and emotional support where required
  • Assisting with personal care when needed
  • Monitoring progress and providing feedback to teachers
  • Supporting students' independence, confidence, and social development

Requirements

  • HLTA qualification or significant experience in a similar role
  • Experience working with children or young people with SEND
  • Strong understanding of classroom practice and behaviour management
  • Comfortable supporting personal care needs when required
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Enhanced Child and Adult DBS registered on the Update Service (or willing to obtain one)
