SEN & SEMH Teaching Assistants and Support Workers – Wigan, Leigh & Bolton

Teaching Personnel are currently recruiting full-time SEN and SEMH Teaching Assistants and Support Workers for a range of specialist schools, mainstream schools with specialist provisions, and alternative educational settings across Wigan, Leigh and Bolton.

Positions are available for candidates looking to start after the October half-term.

The Role

We are looking for passionate, patient and resilient SEN/SEMH Teaching Assistants and Support Workers to support children and young people with a range of additional needs.

Depending on the setting, you may be supporting pupils with:

  • Special Educational Needs (SEN)

  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs

  • Autism

  • ADHD

  • Behavioural needs

  • Anxiety and emotional difficulties

  • Communication and interaction difficulties

  • Complex learning needs

  • Challenging behaviour

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with SEN and SEMH needs.

  • Support children and young people with emotional regulation and behaviour management.

  • Develop positive, trusting and professional relationships with pupils.

  • Support pupils experiencing anxiety, low confidence, emotional difficulties or challenging behaviour.

  • Use positive behaviour strategies and appropriate de-escalation approaches.

  • Encourage pupils to engage with learning and develop confidence, resilience and independence.

  • Support classroom learning and adapt activities to meet individual needs.

  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral teams and other professionals.

  • Support pupils with communication, social interaction and emotional development.

  • Monitor and communicate relevant information regarding pupil progress, behaviour and wellbeing.

  • Maintain a calm, consistent and nurturing approach.

  • Follow safeguarding procedures and promote the welfare and safety of pupils.

  • Maintain confidentiality and appropriate professional boundaries.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
