SEMH Teaching Assistant – Primary School

£90–£105 per day
Full-Time | Long-Term | Temp-to-Perm Opportunity
A supportive and inclusive primary school in Wakefield is seeking an experienced and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team. This role focuses on supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, behavioural challenges, and difficulties regulating emotions in the classroom.
Role Responsibilities

Provide 1:1 and small-group support for children with SEMH needs

Use de-escalation strategies and emotional regulation techniques
-
Support behaviour plans and EHCP targets
-
Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils

Work alongside class teachers, pastoral staff and external agencies
-
Create a calm, structured and predictable environment for learners
Ideal Candidate
✅ Experience working with SEMH, behaviour, or complex needs
✅ Primary school experience preferred
✅ Strong resilience, calm under pressure, able to build rapport
✅ Confident using restorative or trauma-informed approaches
✅ Team Teach / MAPA training is desirable
✅ Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willing to apply)
✅ Full-time availability

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
