Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant – Special Educational Needs Support
Location: Yeovil, Somerset
Salary: £13.75 an hour | Term Time Only | CPD Training Provided
Contract: Full-time, Part-time, Flexible Options


About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to support children and young people aged 5–16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and other Special Educational Needs (SEN).

You will work closely with teachers to provide tailored support for students with:

  • SEMH
  • ADHD / ADD
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD)
  • Conduct Disorder (CD)
  • OCD
  • Speech and Language Difficulties
  • And other behavioural challenges

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create a safe, inclusive learning environment
  • Support students’ academic and personal development
  • Implement positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques
  • Collaborate with teachers and support staff

Requirements

  • Experience in SEN, SEMH, or similar support roles
  • Understanding of positive behaviour support strategies
  • Calm, patient, and resilient approach
  • Ability to manage challenging situations professionally

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
