Teaching Personnel are looking to appoint a confident, proactive, and resilient Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEMH secondary provision in Failsworth. About the School
This specialist setting supports students aged 11–16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The school is dedicated to providing a structured, nurturing, and supportive environment where pupils can rebuild their confidence, re-engage with learning, and achieve both academically and personally.
Staff work closely together to ensure consistency, build positive relationships, and provide the stability pupils need to succeed.
The Role
This is a highly active, hands-on role suited to an individual who is confident taking initiative and responding effectively to challenges. You will support pupils both in and out of the classroom, helping them to regulate behaviour, stay engaged in learning, and develop positive routines.
No two days are the same, so adaptability, resilience, and a calm, professional attitude are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils
- Support behaviour management through consistent, positive strategies
- Build strong, trusting relationships with students
- Assist in the delivery of engaging lessons and activities
- Support pupils with emotional regulation and transitions throughout the day
- Respond confidently and independently to challenging situations
- Work collaboratively with teachers and the wider support team
- Maintain a calm and professional approach at all times
Essential Requirements
- Experience working with children or young people
- A confident, proactive, and adaptable approach
- Ability to work independently and use initiative
- Strong behaviour management skills
- Resilience, patience, and composure under pressure
- A genuine passion for supporting young people
- Experience supporting challenging behaviour
Desirable Skills
- Experience working in SEMH settings, PRUs, or alternative provisions
- Team Teach training (or willingness to undertake training)
- Understanding of trauma-informed practice

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
