SEMH Teaching Assistant – Litherland

A small catholic primary school are looking to appoint a SEN Teaching Assistant who specialises in SEMH from September 2026 on a full time basis.

This nurturing school prides itself on providing a supportive and inclusive environment for all pupils and is looking for someone who embodies their core values of compassion, patience, and respect. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting children with SEMH needs, helping them to regulate their emotions, engage positively with learning, and achieve personal and academic progress.

The ideal candidate will be:

  • Patient, calm and emotionally resilient
  • Nurturing and empathetic, with a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
  • Able to build strong, trusting relationships with pupils
  • Capable of using de-escalation strategies and supportive behaviour approaches
  • Confident in working both 1:1 and with small groups
  • A positive role model with excellent communication skills

Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one support for pupils with SEMH needs
  • Implement individual support plans
  • Liaise with teaching staff, the school SENCo and external agencies where needed
  • Encourage pupil’s confidence, well-being and engagement with learning
  • Support the class teacher in creating an inclusive, supportive learning environment

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
