SEMH SEND Teaching Assistant – Ferryhill Primary School

Start Date: January
Hours: 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM
Location: Ferryhill
Contract: Supply with Temp-to-Perm Opportunity

Are you passionate about supporting children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? We are looking for a dedicated SEMH SEND Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Ferryhill. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who wants to make a real difference and potentially secure a permanent role.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Providing one-to-one and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs
  • Helping children manage emotions and develop positive coping strategies
  • Assisting with classroom activities and tailored learning interventions
  • Building strong, trusting relationships to promote engagement and progress
  • Working closely with teachers and pastoral teams to create a safe, supportive environment

What we’re looking for:

  • Calm, patient and resilient, with a genuine passion for helping children thrive
  • Strong communication and behaviour management skills
  • Ability to adapt to challenging situations and maintain a positive approach
  • Experience supporting children with SEMH or SEND needs is desirable
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting inclusion

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a SEND or SEMH setting preferred
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
