Teaching Assistant – SEMH Alternative Provision (Primary)
Location: Burgess Hill
Start Date: ASAP / Flexible
Contract: Full-time (Term-time only)

We are currently looking for a dedicated and nurturing Teaching Assistant to join a specialist alternative provision in Burgess Hill, supporting primary-aged pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

This setting supports children who may have struggled in mainstream education and require a more personalised and structured approach. The successful candidate will play a key role in helping pupils feel safe, supported, and ready to learn.

The Role:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils
  • Assist in delivering tailored learning activities alongside the teacher
  • Build positive, consistent relationships with pupils
  • Support behaviour management with a calm and proactive approach
  • Encourage pupils’ social and emotional development

The Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Have experience working with children, ideally within a primary setting
  • Have experience with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour (or a strong willingness to learn)
  • Be patient, empathetic, and resilient
  • Be confident in maintaining boundaries and supporting behaviour
  • Work well as part of a team

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
