SEMH Teaching Assistant – KS3 Pupil Support

Location: Blackpool
Start Date: April - after the Easter half-term
Contract: Full-time (due to additional funding)

Are you passionate about supporting young people with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs?
A supportive secondary school in Blackpool is seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a KS3 pupil following the allocation of additional funding. This role will begin after the Easter half-term.

About the Role

You will work closely with a KS3 student who requires tailored SEMH support to help them engage positively with learning and school life. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in promoting emotional regulation, building confidence, and helping the pupil access the curriculum.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide consistent 1:1 support to a KS3 pupil with SEMH needs.
  • Implement strategies to support emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
  • Work closely with teaching staff, SENCO, and external agencies where required.
  • Assist with creating a safe, nurturing, and structured environment for learning.
  • Support the pupil both in and out of the classroom, ensuring their wellbeing and engagement.
  • Contribute to personalised learning plans and progress reviews.

Essential Requirements

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs.
  • Ability to build strong, trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Patience, resilience, and a calm, supportive approach.
  • Understanding of behaviour support strategies.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a school team.

Desirable

  • Experience in a secondary school environment.
  • Knowledge of de-escalation strategies or relevant training (Team Teach, MAPA, etc.).

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
