Long-Term SEMH Teacher – Full-Time
We are working in partnership with a specialist SEMH provision in Carlisle to recruit a committed and resilient SEMH Teacher for a full-time, long-term position.
This is a rewarding opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about supporting young people with social, emotional, and mental health needs, many of whom have experienced disrupted education, trauma, or adverse childhood experiences. The setting provides a structured and nurturing environment designed to help pupils re-engage with learning, develop emotional regulation, and achieve positive outcomes both academically and socially.
The role
As an SEMH Teacher, you will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging, differentiated lessons that meet the individual needs of pupils. You will work closely with teaching assistants and support staff to maintain a calm, consistent learning environment, using positive behaviour strategies and trauma-informed practice. Strong relationship-building is central to this role, as pupils respond best to adults who are patient, consistent, and emotionally attuned.
Key responsibilities include:

Delivering high-quality teaching tailored to pupils with SEMH and associated needs

Managing behaviour effectively using restorative and therapeutic approaches

Creating a safe, structured, and supportive classroom environment

Supporting pupils’ emotional regulation and social development

Working collaboratively with support staff, SEN professionals, and external agencies

Maintaining clear routines, expectations, and boundaries
The ideal candidate will have:

QTS or a relevant teaching qualification
-
Experience working with SEMH, SEND, PRU, or alternative provision pupils
-
Strong behaviour management skills and a calm, consistent approach
-
A genuine commitment to improving outcomes for vulnerable learners

Resilience, adaptability, and a positive, team-focused attitude

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
