Are you a confident, compassionate professional with a passion for supporting young people? Teaching Personnel are seeking an exceptional Pastoral assistant to join a dedicated SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) Secondary School in Warrington. You’ll be supporting students with a range of complex SEMH needs, including anxiety, trauma backgrounds, attachment difficulties, challenging behaviour, low emotional regulation, and mental health conditions such as depression. ⭐ About the Role

As Pastoral Lead, you will play a key role in the wellbeing, engagement and personal development of young people. You’ll be a visible, supportive presence around school, helping students navigate challenges, build resilience and access learning.


Key Responsibilities

  1. Assist on pastoral support and wellbeing strategies, ensuring students feel safe, supported and ready to learn.
  2. Manage and deliver targeted interventions for students with SEMH needs, including behaviour mentoring, emotional regulation support and restorative practices.
  3. Work 1:1 and in small groups to build relationships, reduce barriers to learning and promote positive behaviour.
  4. Liaise closely with teachers, SLT, external agencies and parents/carers, contributing to behaviour plans, risk assessments and EHCP reviews.
  5. Respond to pastoral concerns and incidents, offering calm, consistent guidance and helping de-escalate challenging situations.
  6. Promote attendance, engagement and personal development, tracking progress and implementing strategies to improve outcomes for vulnerable learners.

✔️ Requirements

  • Experience working with young people with SEMH needs in a school, residential, youth work or similar setting.
  • Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
  • Ability to build trusting, professional relationships with students who may display challenging behaviours.
  • Confident communicator with excellent organisational and safeguarding awareness.
  • Resilience, patience and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
  • An enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
