SEMH Learning Support Assistant – Exeter, Devon

Are you passionate about supporting children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs? Teaching Personnel is recruiting caring, resilient, and committed SEMH Learning Support Assistants to work closely with pupils who require additional emotional and behavioural support in schools across Exeter and the surrounding areas.

This role is ideal for individuals with experience in SEMH, behaviour support, pastoral care, youth work, or those looking to build a rewarding career in SEND and specialist education.

Role: SEMH Learning Support Assistant
Pay Rate: £90–£100 per day
Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Full-time, Term Time Only
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm

As an SEMH Learning Support Assistant, you will:
• Provide dedicated 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH needs
• Support pupils with emotional regulation, behaviour management, and social development
• Implement behaviour support plans, emotional regulation strategies, and EHCP targets
• Help pupils access learning by reducing barriers caused by anxiety, trauma, or challenging behaviour
• Promote positive relationships, resilience, and self-esteem
• Support pupils during transitions and unstructured times throughout the school day
• Work closely with the class teacher, SENCo, and pastoral teams to deliver consistent support

We’re Looking For:
• Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, challenging behaviour, or emotional needs (desirable but not essential)
• Transferable experience from care, youth work, mentoring, psychology, coaching, or family SEND experience
• A calm, patient, and resilient approach
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• A genuine passion for supporting pupils’ emotional wellbeing and development
