Are you passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to education and reach their full potential? Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated Behaviour & Learning Mentor to join a specialist alternative provision in the Salford area.
This rewarding role involves supporting students aged 11-16 who require additional intervention to succeed in education. The provision supports pupils with a range of needs, including Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, trauma-related needs, attachment difficulties, anxiety, emotional regulation challenges, and behavioural needs.
The school offers small class sizes, a nurturing approach to education, and a strong focus on relationship-building. Staff work collaboratively to help students re-engage with learning, develop confidence, improve behaviour, and achieve positive outcomes both inside and outside the classroom. This makes it an ideal setting for candidates who are passionate about making a genuine difference in the lives of vulnerable young people.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one and small group behavioural support.
- Build strong, positive relationships with students to promote engagement and trust.
- Support pupils with emotional regulation and conflict resolution strategies.
- Help students access learning and remain focused during lessons.
- Implement behaviour support plans and intervention strategies.
- Promote positive behaviour, attendance, and personal development.
- Support students during unstructured times, transitions, and enrichment activities.
- Work alongside teaching staff, families, and external professionals to support student progress.
- Monitor, record, and report on behaviour, wellbeing, and achievement.
Requirements
- Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND, or behavioural needs.
- Background in education, youth work, coaching, support work, residential care, or similar settings is highly desirable.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- A calm, resilient, and proactive approach.
- Ability to manage challenging behaviour positively and professionally.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting student welfare.
- Team Teach training is advantageous but not essential.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one through Teaching Personnel.
