Job description

Secondary Teaching Assistant – Cambridge & Cambridgeshire

Central Cambridge | East Cambridgeshire | South Cambridgeshire
Flexible Supply | Ad Hoc Days | Block Bookings | Longer-Term Opportunities

Are you an experienced Secondary Teaching Assistant looking for flexible work that fits around you?

Teaching Personnel is looking for reliable and enthusiastic Teaching Assistants to support secondary schools across Cambridge and the surrounding areas.

We work closely with a range of local schools who regularly require additional classroom support. Opportunities can range from ad hoc, day-to-day supply through to pre-booked days and block bookings, with opportinity for some placements to develop into long term roles.

This makes supply a great option whether you're looking for the occasional day to fit around other commitments or would prefer something more consistent.

We are particularly keen to hear from Teaching Assistants who are confident supporting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and who have strong behaviour management skills.

What will the role involve?

Depending on the school and assignment, you could be:

  • Supporting students across KS3 and KS4 within the classroom
  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support
  • Supporting students with SEN and additional learning needs
  • Helping pupils to access and engage positively with their learning
  • Using effective behaviour management strategies to maintain a positive learning environment
  • Supporting students with emotional regulation, confidence and engagement
  • Building positive relationships with pupils while maintaining clear boundaries and expectations
  • Working alongside teachers and SEN teams to provide consistent support
  • Helping to create a positive, inclusive and supportive classroom environment

What can we offer you?

  • Flexible working to suit your availability
  • Ad hoc and day-to-day supply for those wanting complete flexibility
  • Pre-booked days and block bookings for those looking for greater consistency
  • The potential for some bookings to develop into longer-term opportunities
  • Work across Central Cambridge, East Cambridgeshire and South Cambridgeshire
  • Opportunities within a variety of secondary school settings
  • Experience supporting pupils with a range of SEN and additional needs
  • The flexibility to choose the days you want to work
  • Support from a dedicated Teaching Personnel consultant who will get to know your experience, preferences and availability

Who are we looking for?

We'd love to hear from you if you:

  • Have experience working with secondary-aged pupils
  • Have experience supporting students with SEN or additional needs
  • Have confident and effective behaviour management skills
  • Can remain calm, patient and consistent when dealing with challenging behaviour
  • Have worked as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, SEN Teaching Assistant or in a similar education-based role
  • Are confident providing both classroom and individual pupil support
  • Can build positive relationships with young people while maintaining clear boundaries and expectations
  • Have a positive, adaptable and proactive approach
  • Are reliable and comfortable working across different school environments
  • Have your own transport and are happy to travel to schools within your preferred area

Flexible work that works for you

One of the biggest benefits of supply is that it doesn't have to look the same for everyone.

You may want occasional ad hoc days, a regular block booking at the same school, or you may ultimately be hoping to find a longer-term position. We'll take the time to understand what you're looking for, the days you're available and how far you're happy to travel, so we can match you with suitable opportunities.

Whether you're looking for a better work-life balance, experience across different secondary settings or simply more control over your working week, we'd love to hear from you.

Apply today and let us know your availability and which areas you're happy to travel to: Central Cambridge, East Cambridgeshire or South Cambridgeshire.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ this may also include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted applicants.
We offer all our registered candidates FREE child protection and prevent duty training. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Full assistance provided.
