Secondary SEND Teaching Assistant

Location: Stockport
Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Full-time, Long-term (Temp to Perm opportunities available)

Teaching Personnel are working in partnership with a supportive Secondary SEND provision to recruit a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to support pupils aged 11–16 with a range of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

The school supports pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, SEMH needs, speech, language and communication difficulties and moderate learning needs. Pupils often require consistent routines, emotional support and tailored interventions to access learning successfully. Class sizes are small, allowing for a highly personalised and relationship-led approach.

This role is ideal for individuals who are patient, resilient and passionate about supporting young people, whether you have school-based SEND experience or transferable experience from care, youth work or mental health settings.

The Role:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEND
  • Support pupils’ academic engagement, emotional regulation and behaviour
  • Assist the class teacher with delivering adapted and differentiated lessons
  • Implement EHCP targets, behaviour plans and support strategies
  • Encourage positive behaviour, independence and resilience
  • Support pupils during lessons, transitions, break and lunch times
  • Help create a safe, calm and inclusive learning environment
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral teams and external professionals
  • Assist with classroom preparation and organisation
  • Occasional personal care may be required (training provided where necessary)

The Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Have experience working with young people with SEND or SEMH needs (school-based or transferable)
  • Be calm, patient, empathetic and resilient
  • Be confident supporting challenging behaviour using positive strategies
  • Have strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Be reliable, proactive and able to work as part of a team
  • Have a genuine interest in supporting vulnerable young people
  • Be open to training and professional development

Previous experience in a secondary school, alternative provision or specialist SEND setting is desirable but not essential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
