Secondary SEMH Teaching Assistant – Tameside
Location: Tameside

Do you have a passion for supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated Secondary SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist provision in Tameside. You will play a key role in supporting young people with challenging behaviour, anxiety, attachment disorders, Low self-esteem and confidence.
About the Role
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Work 1:1 and in small groups to help pupils engage with learning and develop emotional regulation skills.
- Implement behaviour management strategies and provide a calm, consistent approach.
- Assist with academic work across core subjects, adapting resources to meet individual needs.
- Promote positive relationships and act as a mentor to encourage confidence and resilience.
- Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and external agencies to deliver personalised interventions.
Requirements
- Experience working with young people or adults with SEMH needs (school-based or alternative settings).
- Strong behaviour management skills and a patient, empathetic approach.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and build trust with pupils.
- Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply).
- References covering the last 24 months.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
