Job description

We are seeking a committed and resilient Science Teacher to join a specialist secondary setting supporting young people with SEMH and trauma-related needs.

This role is ideal for someone who understands that progress starts with relationships. You will teach Science up to GCSE level, delivering lessons in a way that is calm, consistent, and nurturing, while adapting to the emotional and behavioural needs of each student.

The Role

  • Teach Science up to GCSE level using flexible and accessible approaches
  • Adapt lessons to support students with SEMH and trauma backgrounds
  • Create a safe, predictable, and supportive learning environment
  • Build positive relationships that help students feel secure and understood
  • Work closely with a multidisciplinary team to provide consistent support
  • Support students to re-engage with learning at their own pace

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Experience working with SEN, particularly SEMH and trauma (essential)
  • A calm, patient, and nurturing approach to teaching and behaviour
  • The ability to remain resilient and consistent, even on challenging days
  • An adaptable mindset and a sense of perspective
  • The ability to not take themselves too seriously and use humour appropriately
  • Strong emotional awareness and an understanding, non-judgemental approach
  • Confidence in managing behaviour without becoming easily offended

We Are Looking For Someone Who

  • Understands that behaviour is a response to unmet needs
  • Values consistency, boundaries, and emotional safety
  • Can remain steady, patient, and supportive under pressure
  • Builds trust through reliability, warmth, and understanding
  • Believes every young person deserves another chance to succeed

This is a rewarding opportunity for a Science Teacher who wants to make a genuine difference in a setting where compassion, consistency, and resilience matter as much as subject knowledge.
