Science Teacher

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

  • Plan and deliver engaging science lessons (Biology, Chemistry, and/or Physics) appropriate to students’ age and ability

  • Teach in accordance with the national curriculum and school schemes of work

  • Use a variety of teaching strategies to meet the needs of all learners

  • Set clear learning objectives and communicate expectations effectively

  • Encourage curiosity, critical thinking, and safe practical investigation

Assessment and Progress

  • Assess, record, and report on student progress accurately and regularly

  • Provide timely, constructive feedback to support student improvement

  • Use assessment data to inform planning and intervention

  • Prepare students for internal and external examinations

Classroom Management

  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment

  • Manage classroom behavior in line with school policies

  • Ensure health and safety procedures are followed, particularly during practical work

Professional Responsibilities

  • Participate in departmental planning and meetings

  • Contribute to curriculum development and enrichment activities

  • Engage in continuous professional development

  • Communicate effectively with parents, carers, and colleagues

  • Support whole-school initiatives and events

Safeguarding

  • Promote the welfare and safeguarding of all students

  • Adhere to school safeguarding policies and procedures

Person Specification

Essential

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent

  • Degree in a science-related subject

  • Strong subject knowledge and passion for science education

  • Ability to motivate and engage secondary-age students

  • Good communication and organizational skills

Desirable

  • Experience teaching science at KS3 and KS4 (KS5 an advantage)

  • Experience with practical laboratory work

  • Willingness to contribute to extracurricular science activities

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
