Reading Intervention Specialist 

Location: Blackburn
Days: 2 Days per Week (Flexible)
Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm
Start Date: ASAP
Pay: Dependent on Skills and Experience

 Teaching Personnel are working in partnership with a Secondary Alternative Provision in Blackburn to recruit a Reading Intervention Specialist to start as soon as possible. This is a part-time opportunity (2 days per week) with flexible days and the chance to make a real difference to young people who need targeted literacy support.

Although the role is within a secondary setting, the successful candidate must have a secure understanding of the primary phonics curriculum, as many of the learners are working below age-related expectations in reading.

Role responsibilities include:

  • Planning and delivering effective reading interventions

  • Using phonics-based approaches to support struggling readers

  • Assessing progress and adapting support accordingly

  • Working closely with teaching staff and SEN teams

  • Building positive relationships with learners who may have experienced barriers to education

Ideal candidates will have:

  • Experience working across primary and/or secondary settings

  • Strong knowledge of synthetic phonics and early reading strategies

  • A nurturing and patient approach to learning support

  • The ability to manage behaviour positively and consistently
